Sea lemon is a slug , but lives in salt waters. The scientific name is Doris pseudoargus. The translation of the second word coincides with the popular name "lemon". However, it has not yet become popular. About the animal, so far, except for specialists, few people know. Reasons: the passage of a short time after opening; secretive and deep way of life and, apparently, a small population size. The sea slug does not carry any practical significance for mankind. This also does not contribute to popularization. But, the animal slowly began to be included in the lists of the most unusual in the world. There are such ratings, both for living beings in general and for mollusks in particular. Among mollusks, sea lemon occupies a niche of gastropods, like the angelfish and monkfish. If the monkfish looks pretty, bright and does not match the name (except for the confrontation in the food chain with an angel), then the sea angel is really associated with a heavenly creature. The leg of the mollusk was transformed into 2 thin and flat outgrowths. In water, they resemble wings. There are sea lemons with greenish, brown and reddish spots. But, and they do not get out of the concept of the lemon fruit at different periods of its ripening and storage. In accordance with the nuances of color, subspecies are distinguished:Doris Montereyensis. It is completely yellow, including the gill region. In other species, the rim of the gills differs in color, it happens: blue, red, gray, almost white. The tubercles on the body of the Monterey Sea Lemon are brown.Peltodoris nobilis. Its gill regions, in contrast to Doris Montereyensis, are white and the overall color tone is paler and more uneven.Diaulula Lentiginosa. Otherwise called spotted pale sea lemon . According to the name, its color is the most pastel, almost white, uneven. The clam is oval in shape . The body looks swollen. This gives an additional resemblance to a citrus fruit, as does the enviable density and thickness of its outer mantle. Most sea slugs are 10-12 centimeters long. Sometimes there are individuals up to 20 centimeters. On the head of the water lemon there are shortened rhinophores - sensory organs resembling underdeveloped tentacles. On the body of the mollusk, these are the only noticeable protruding parts. They need a lemon for smell and touch.
